What’s Happening at GS1 Canada

Looking Back on 2018

As an industry-directed association, subscriber feedback is vital in ensuring that GS1 Canada continues to deliver value through ongoing enhancements to our tools and capabilities.

Throughout 2018, feedback from our user community drove the development and delivery of new capabilities and enhancements to enable data excellence, streamline business processes and meet trading partner requirements.

Some of these highlights include:

  • Rollout out of TrueSource™ Dashboard to more users than ever before and introducing the new My TrueSource™ Dashboard view to give manufacturers visibility into their own data metrics, regardless of their specific trading partners.
  • Launch of the GTIN Allocation Assistant decision-making tool, helping organizations understand when changes to their products or packaging mean a new GTIN is needed.
  • Support for Food & Consumer Products Canada’s SmartLabel™ initiative through SmartLabel™ Extract.
  • Barcode Generator, a new tool to efficiently create high-resolution, standards-compliant barcode symbols for your GTINs.
  • The launch of refreshed Grocery, Foodservice and General Merchandise and Hardlines webpages.
  • The launch of our Food for Thought newsletter - click here to read previous editions.

In 2019, we will continue to launch new and enhanced solutions, services and tools to help you meet your business needs. Visit our Coming Enhancements page to see what’s new.

New! Bulk Upload Functionality Now Available!

A priority focus for GS1 Canada throughout 2018 has been streamlining our Content Capture Service Request tool based on user feedback to improve the scheduling process, facilitate eSubmissions and give users more flexibility around their shipping dates.

Starting December 3, users can benefit from the introduction of the Add Multiple Products function.

Add Multiple Products enables users to upload multiple products into a single content capture service request, greatly reducing the time it takes to submit new requests. Visit the Content Capture Service Request tool to see it in action.

Throughout 2019, we will be continuing to streamline this tool and add new functionality to deliver faster, more efficient processes and increase end-to-end visibility.

Favourite Holiday Treats from GS1 Canada’s Grocery and Foodservice Team

Pam Horvatis, Senior Vice President, Industry Relations: I have hunted for years for a crushed walnut and brown sugar sweet bread like my grandmother used to make and finally found it at the St. Catherines Farmers Market. Just like Grandma’s!!!

Taleza Adams, Industry Engagement Manager: I don’t really have a sweet tooth but every year I look forward to my aunt’s sugar cookies.

Shawn Porto, Senior Manager, Industry Relations: It’s a holiday tradition with my daughter that we make and consume sugar cookies together! We also share, but the fun is in the quality assurance!

Patricia Crilly, Senior Director, Industry Relations: I enjoy once per year an eggnog on ice with dark quality Barbadian rum with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.

Debby Atallah, Senior Vice President, Industry Relations: As a child I always looked forward to Chocolate Spider cookies (chocolate/butterscotch covered chow mein noodle cookies) and have carried the tradition to my own family and friends.
Ray Hepworth, Vice President, Industry Relations: My favourite holiday treat is DEFINITELY Peanut Brittle – the more peanuty the better! It always reminds me of my childhood as our mom used to make the BEST and although I’ve tried, I’m never able to make it quite the same way.

Michel Boucher, Vice President, Industry Engagement: My favourite holiday treat is my mom’s shortbread cookies.

Melanie Barlow, Senior Manager, Industry Engagement: My favorite treat during the holidays is savoring “time” with my kids. We enjoy having more elaborate meals that are slow i.e.: fondue, raclette in which we can eat, talk and laugh.

Pierre Lessard, Industry Engagement Manager: Coaticook ice cream Christmas log is one of my favourite treats at Xmas :) with a glass of eggnog in front of my fire place.
