UK government leadership continues to drive patient safety and efficiencies through the adoption of GS1 global standards

Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock announced his commitment to scaling technology initiatives, based on GS1 global standards within NHS to improve patient safety.

Rooted in the success of the Scan4Safety program, Mr Hancock confirmed additional funding of £487 million to Sustainable Transformation Partnerships (STPs) –  local alliances of healthcare providers – stating the money should be primarily used in funding transformational technology throughout the National Health Service (NHS) that would bring patient barcoding and digital prescriptions. By barcoding patient wristbands and closed-loop medicine dispensing, patient safety is being improved through transformative technology using GS1 standards.
