Other Content Loading Tools
GS1 Canada also supports other content loading options such as EDI or GDSN.
Loading options are fully interoperable. You can load into ECCnet Registry using GDSN or EDI and ECCnet Registry
can populate Item Centre or be published to a GDSN data pool.
Content Loading Process
GDSN
The Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) is one content loading option within our ECCnet New Item Setup
solution. GDSN is a global standard for sharing data through a networked series of interconnected global data
pools.
When data is uploaded to one data pool by a manufacturer or brand owner, it can then be downloaded from a
connected data pool by a data recipient anywhere in the world.
GDSN is based on the internationally-recognized GS1 system of standards and GS1 Canada hosts its own
GS1-certified data pool, which is powered by 1WorldSync. It is most suitable for multinational companies doing
business outside of Canada and is favoured by the medical device community.
Using GDSN reduces manual processes as data updates and new content is automatically shared with trading
partners.
Content loaded via GDSN can flow into ECCnet Registry for distribution to trading partners when it meets Canadian
Industry’s data excellence standards.
Content can also flow freely from ECCnet Registry data into all GDSN data pools. This enables more flexibility in
how product data is loaded and received.

Using EDI to input information into ECCnet Registry is generally suitable for organizations already using EDI for
